My stay in Grenada included a yoga practice every single day. What bliss it was!

Sitting on the most beautiful wooden dais, covered with a perfect pyramid top, gazing out at an infinite horizon over the Caribbean sea.

I can think of worse things to be doing with my holiday time!

We had a choice of yoga – Vinyasa, Yin, Hatha or Kundalini.

In fact, I did all of them, and I tried pilates as well into the bargain. For the record? I´d rather have my nosehair plucked out on a daily basis on the pilates front …

The Kundalini Yoga was the “new kid on the block” for me. How fascinating that was. All spine bending and mantras. Very little of it was physically challenging, although the breath of fire took a bit of getting used to.

We used the mantra “Sat Nam” (Truth, Identity) with Kia’s yoga regime, and it was so restful and relaxing I decided last night, as Zack was wriggling around next to me in bed (my 9 year old who has moved into my bed temporarily while we get used to being able to do that again), that I would teach him the Sat Nam breathing rhythm to help him quieten his mind.

So I gently explained that on every in breath through the nose, he quietly says the word “SAT” inside his head rather than breathing in while trying to say it out loud. That in itself caused another hopeless attack of the giggles…. And then when we´d calmed, we had another explanation of as you exhale, again through the nose, to gently repeat inside your head the word “NAM”.

That was it. He looked at me and said “Mummy, how can I possibly get relaxed saying SAT NAV to myself over and over? I’m restless, not lost”.
